💷 Skint Map is a community-driven, ad-free, commission-free app for finding London meals under £10. We take your privacy seriously and are committed to complying with UK GDPR.
1. Information we collect
Location: When you grant permission, we access your current coordinates (latitude/longitude) to show nearby restaurants on the map. Your location is never stored on our servers.
Account information: When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address from the authentication provider. We also assign you a unique identifier (UID) via Firebase Authentication, which is used to link your submissions, recommendations, and profile across sessions.
Nickname: The public display name you choose when setting up your profile. This is stored in our database and displayed alongside your submissions.
Submissions: If you add a place, we collect the restaurant name, category, price, coordinates, a short description (optional), opening hours (optional), and payment method (optional), along with your UID as the submitter.
Contributions and recommendations: We record which places you have recommended ("liked") and track the number of your submissions that have been approved, in order to display your contributor badge.
App preferences: We store a single flag on your device using local storage to remember that you have completed the onboarding screen. This data never leaves your device.
Device information: We may collect device type and OS version to help diagnose app errors.
2. How we use your information
To create and manage your account, and to display your nickname and contributor badge alongside your submissions.
To display community-submitted restaurants on the map and share them with other users.
To review reports of inaccurate or inappropriate listings and maintain service quality.
To identify and fix app errors and improve the service.
3. Legal basis (UK GDPR Article 6)
Location data: processed on the basis of your explicit consent (Article 6(1)(a)).
Account information (name, email, UID, nickname, contribution data): processed on the basis of legitimate interests in providing a personalised, community-driven service (Article 6(1)(f)).
Submission and recommendation data: processed on the basis of legitimate interests in providing the service (Article 6(1)(f)).
4. How long we keep your data
Location data: discarded immediately — never stored on our servers.
Account data (nickname, UID, contribution count): retained while your account is active. You may request deletion at any time.
Submission data: retained until you request deletion or the service closes.
Recommendations (likes): retained until you request deletion.
Reported listings: reviewed within 30 days; removed promptly if a report is upheld.
5. Third parties and international transfers
Skint Map does not sell or share your personal data with advertisers, partners, or other third parties.
We use Firebase (Google LLC) to run the service — including authentication, database, and hosting. Google's Privacy Policy applies to data processed through Firebase.
Firebase is operated by Google LLC, a company based in the United States. Your data may be transferred to and stored on servers in the United States. Google participates in the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, which provides appropriate safeguards for such international transfers under UK GDPR.
We may disclose information where required by law or a competent authority.
6. Your rights (UK GDPR)
Access: you can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Rectification: you can ask us to correct inaccurate data.
Erasure ("right to be forgotten"): you can ask us to delete your data.
Restriction: you can ask us to limit how we process your data in certain circumstances.
Objection: you can object to processing based on legitimate interests.

You can revoke location access at any time via Settings → Apps → Skint Map → Location.
After revoking, the app will still work — it will simply default to a central London view.
8. Children's privacy
Skint Map is intended for users aged 13 and over.
We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Complaints
If you believe your UK GDPR rights have been infringed, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
